Academy award winning screenwriter Eric Roth joins "Why Should White Guys Have All the Fun?" producer team to write upcoming biopic on the late Wall Street Mogul Reginald Lewis, the first African-American to own a billion-dollar empire before Bill Gates.

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 13, 2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Producers who first brought the late Wall Street legend Reginald Lewis' inspirational "rags-to-riches" story to Hollywood before COVID, are back with an Oscar winning writer, Lionsgate distribution and an NBA legend investor.

"During the pandemic it was impossible for indie films like ours to raise financing when AMC and other theaters were shut down and almost no one was going to the movies," said Producer Jesse Wineberry. "But the pandemic, continued Wineberry, actually gave us the time we needed to bring together the perfect team to make the Reginald Lewis movie."

The perfect team includes Academy award winning screenwriter/Producer Eric Roth, repped by CAA ("Forrest Gump", 'ALI", "A Star is Born", "Dune: Part One", Netflix's "House of Cards"), Producer Ray Charles Robinson, Jr., repped by Renaissance Literary & Talent. ("Ray" "Hotel California") actor/Producer Wood Harris, repped by Gersh Agency ("The Wire", "Remember the Titans", "Next Day Air", "Ant-Man", "CREED") Producer Keyun "Country" Parker ("Bloodline Killers, "Desert Road", "Billy Knight"), Executive Producer Ulysses "Junior" Bridgeman and distribution by Lionsgate Studios.

"Reginald Lewis was truly the "Muhammed Ali" of Wall Street!", said Roth who co-wrote the 2001 award winning film "ALI", starring Will Smith. "Ali was the Greatest of All Time (G.O.A.T.) in sports because he often outsmarted his toughest opponents in the ring." "Lewis was the G.O.A.T. in business because he was able to outthink some of the most vicious sharks on Wall Street to own a billion-dollar empire feeding the world."

"Reginald Lewis was my hero, second only to my dad," said Ray Charles Robinson, Jr., who produced his legendary father and global music icon Ray Charles' Oscar nominated biopic "Ray." "We welcome Eric onboard the team and look forward to helping his vision unfold on the big screen."

"I've dreamed of producing the Reginald Lewis movie ever since I first read his autobiography, "Why Should White Guys Have All the Fun?", said actor/producer Wood Harris, whose family was among the estimated 100,000 people recently evacuated from their homes during the LA wildfires.

Harris continued, "I really look forward to working with Eric on the Reginald Lewis movie, which the world needs now more than ever. From Palisades to Palestine, all of us will be inspired by Lewis' incredible life and powerful 5-word mantra, "Keep Going…No Matter What!"

Lewis' book also attracted investors like Executive Producer Ulysses "Junior" Bridgeman. Bridgeman said, "That book gave me the confidence to start my own business right after my NBA career with the Milwaukee Bucks Today, I'm an owner of the Milwaukee Bucks I want our movie to inspire the next generation to achieve their dreams, like the book inspired me to achieve mine."

Lionsgate has signed to distribute the Picture which anticipates a 2025 release in commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the 1995 publication of Lewis' bestselling autobiography, "Why Should White Guys Have All the Fun?"
